Indonesia has a tremendous advantage in terms of the development of sharia economic and financial ecosystem. The leading sector in Indonesia’s halal industry, namely the Muslim fashion sector and halal food, was ranked 3rd and 4th based on the State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) report 2020/2021. Indonesia’s halal food market share reaches 13% of the global market, the largest in the world.
The world’s Muslim population of 1.8 billion or 24% of the global population continues to grow and is certainly a potential market for the halal industry. While domestically, based on data from the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the number of Muslim Indonesians in Indonesia reached 86.88%. This condition is clearly very tempting and Indonesia as a majority of Muslims is expected to be able to benefit from the large market potential of this halal product.
Changes in post-pandemic trends that lead to the use of digital features, helped encourage the development of the halal product industry that is closer to its consumers. The presence of digitalization removes the boundaries between regions and even countries and is able to connect every individual wherever they are. This is an opportunity for businesses to further digitize their marketing processes in order to penetrate domestic and global markets.
